Treasure Your Teeth...
It's Well Worth It
Yesterday I had 4 Amish girls come and help me with cleaning and organizing the basement where we keep all the many supplements we sell in our business. We had a wonderful time together. They are such good workers and happy. They stayed and had lunch with us. I had made some Blackberry Crisp that we had with home canned peaches and popcorn. The girls were 15 years to 21 years old, all sisters of one family (15 children in the family!)
At lunch, I noticed one of them not eating any popcorn and asked her if she would like to try some, and she said, "I left my bottom teeth at home and I can't chew it." At least 2 of the girls had false teeth. If they get a cavity, which happens often because they eat so much sugar, they just pull their teeth, sometimes pulling the good teeth too, "so as not to have to mess with them."
For them, it's normal...they can buy the bottom dentures from someone for $175...and they think that is a great deal...and they don't have to worry about bad teeth anymore. I feel so bad for them...to be so young, and to have already lost most of their teeth.
Sadly, the Amish have very little concept of the connection between eating healthy and good health. Their father is 45 and just had a triple by-pass heart surgery.
Did you know that the digestion of your food doesn’t start in your stomach? It actually starts in your mouth….it starts when you chew your food up and the food is mixed with the saliva…the enzymes begin breaking it down right away. When you don’t or can’t chew your food well, it puts a huge burden on your stomach to try to make up for the work your teeth should have done.
And often, when people lose their natural teeth, they often choose foods that are soft and easier to eat…but those foods, because they don’t need chewed well, the saliva isn’t usually mixed well with them, so they often don’t digest as well as food that needs to be well chewed.
How much better it is to learn to take good care of your teeth, and they in turn will take good care of your digestion and your stomach. Everything is connected… Our health is only as strong as the weakest link in our body.
Teach your children and your grandchildren to eat healthy food, to forgo the sugar and junk food…and to brush their teeth. One of my earliest memories is of my Mom telling us 3 kids everything as we were going up the stairs to bed, “Don’t forget to say your prayers, and brush your teeth.” For me, it has paid off big time. I’m 63 and I’ve had only one cavity all my life.
We should be so thankful for all the WONDERFUL LIGHT God has shed on our pathway in regards to health. As time goes on, the world is going to become more and more diseased and the contrast between those who eat healthy and those who don't will become more and more distinct.
As the world gets DARKER, our LIGHT should get BRIGHTER.
